Q: Bob Beckel, who was on Fox News, took leave last winter for back surgery. I recently saw him on CNN. Has he left Fox News?
—Janet Humphrey, Douglasville
A: Fox fired Beckel in June for "personal issues," the network said in a statement.
He was a co-host of “The Five.”
Beckel left the show on Feb. 16 for back surgery, Fox stated at the time, but he later entered rehab for “treatment of an addiction to prescription pain medication,” Fox News said in a statement on May 1.
“We tried to work with Bob for months, but we couldn’t hold ‘The Five’ hostage to one man’s personal issues,” Fox News executive vice president of programming Bill Shine said in a release.
Beckel, a liberal commentator, has been appearing on CNN since late August.
Q: I have been patiently waiting for the movie “The End of the Tour” to arrive in Atlanta. Did I miss it? If it’s not coming to the Atlanta area, will it soon be available on DVD? It appears to be highly rated.
—Brenda Sevcik, Milton
A: "The End of the Tour," a movie about a five-day interview with novelist David Foster Wallace, was released nationally on Aug. 14 and is no longer playing in Atlanta.
The DVD of the movie, which stars Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg, is scheduled to be released on Nov. 3.
Foster Wallace, who wrote “Infinite Jest,” among other books, committed suicide in 2008.
