Q: Given this year’s Super Bowl matchup between the Rams and the Patriots, what does the “Super Bowl index” say about the economy going forward?
LANCE DELOACH, THOMASTON
A: This fictitious indicator of how the stock market will perform is based on which conference wins the Super Bowl, according to investopedia.com.
In many prior years, when an NFC team won, the stock market went up and when an AFC team won, the stock market went down. But the results have been flipped the past three years. When the Denver Broncos won in 2016 and the New England Patriots won in 2017 — both AFC teams — the stock market went up instead of down. When the Philadelphia Eagles, an NFC team, won in 2018, the market went down instead of up.
The Patriots won again this year, which means, according to the Super Bowl index, that the stock market will go down.
Q: What was the venue for Stacey Abrams’ rebuttal to the president’s State of the Union address?
JIM DORIN, STONE MOUNTAIN
A: The venue was the IBEW union hall in downtown Atlanta.
