'The Georgia House added 25 bills to its afternoon agenda on Friday, including one that would allow many restaurants to sell alcohol two hours earlier on Sundays.

Those 25 could be it for the day as Rules Committee Chairman John Meadows, R-Calhoun, told colleagues he hopes not to return until Wednesday, the next legislative day.

Friday is the 30th day of the 40-day legislative session, the all-important “Crossover Day.” For most bills, failure to move from one chamber to the other spells doom for the year.

House members had already passed 13 bills in its morning session, including House Bill 514, creating the city of South Fulton.

Among the bills the Rules Committee added for Friday afternoon is HB 535, by Rep. Brett Harrell, R-Snellville. It allows local governments where Sunday alcohol sales are already legal to vote to let restaurants sell drinks at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. Current law keeps taps dry until 12:30 p.m.

Also on the agenda are HB 393, which opens the door for Tesla to sell cars directly to consumers, and HB 370, which would let some local officials seek an escape from state ethics commission fines.
