To examine the role of doctors in America’s deadly opioid epidemic, the AJC scoured public documents from across the nation. The newspaper’s reporting uncovered more than 1,000 cases of doctors disciplined since 2016 for risky prescribing, many of whom are still seeing patients today. The newspaper also identified nearly 150 recent federal court cases against doctors who were prosecuted on drug offenses tied to their prescription pads.
