Blaming media no substitute for good ideas
I wonder where the “liberal media” blame tag came from. There are a few types of media.
Radio is (for the most part) quite conservative, featuring Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Bill O’Reilly, etc.
Newspapers seem to attempt to provide readers with both sides (even though certain papers will slant their opinions). Television has both sides represented and viewers can watch who they want. The Internet is all over the spectrum.
However, when a politician gets backed into a corner, it is the media which takes the blame. This is a modern media era we live in.
I ask politicians to quit blaming — and deal with the realities of running for office. The media scrutiny is a necessary byproduct of running for office. Stop blaming it when things do not go your way.

Reject politicians who passed bad tax laws
Regarding “His brand of capitalism not free enterprise” (Readers write, Opinion, Jan. 19), because our tax code is a complex, overly technical behemoth, vulture capitalism is alive, well - and legal.
The culprits are not those who take advantage of the income tax laws, but the congressional representatives who have written and enacted them for their constituents.
Go after them. Vote them out, and let’s start over.

Marines’ act against dead enemy a dishonor
I am an 82-year-old Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine), and I am sickened by the recent report of Marines desecrating the corpses of Taliban fighters. They not only violated national and international law, they made a mockery of “First to fight for right and freedom, and to keep our honor clean.”
At the same time, I know that combat brutalizes the combatants and permits what otherwise would be impermissible.
The unit to which these men belonged almost certainly sustained casualties (including death) at the hand of the Taliban. It would be difficult to resist the temptation to take revenge on those who had killed your good friends.
So, we cannot condone what those Marines did — but we can try to understand the circumstances in which they were done.

Bain Capital our secret weapon against rival
I will vote for Mitt Romney if he swears that when elected he will arrange with Bain Capital to purchase China — and then outsource all business to the United States.
