Letters reflect some unselfish viewpoints
Thank you for letters to the editor like “Did we learn anything at all from Vietnam?” (Readers write, Opinion, June 21) and “Scriptures remind us to treat sojourners well” (Readers write, Opinion, June 21). I trust they are representative of many others. Negativism prevails in Congress and Georgia’s General Assembly. That’s depressing. It’s encouraging to know there are many others who hold more unselfish and reflective viewpoints. I just wish that those who hold them could be elected to represent our country and state.

Home health care is a bargain for nation
After Georgians vote in November, Congress will return to Washington to focus on controlling costs for federal programs (such as Medicare). As legislators debate Medicare’s future, they must support cost-effective programs such as home health care, which can reduce unnecessary and expensive hospitalizations, and keep older Georgians living independently at home for as long as possible.
There are already more than a million Medicare recipients in our state, and the number of residents 65 and over is expected to increase.
The home health community wants to be part of the solution to our country’s fiscal challenges. It will offer legislation to strengthen Medicare’s integrity and reduce fraud and abuse. As a home health professional serving elderly Georgians and their families, I hope Rep. John Lewis will support appropriate reimbursements for cost-effective Medicare home health services, and will vote to eliminate costly fraud and abuse.

Country’s division begins at the top
Events of recent days have prompted me to write this letter. At 83 years of age, I have never seen this country so polarized. No one can agree to compromise.
It has to be because of a lack of a reasonable leader. Never have I seen an ego which has generated such arrogance and deception. When you vote this fall, please vote for honesty and character.

Delaying compliance is petty and wasteful
The Affordable Care Act has been declared constitutional.
Gov. Nathan Deal has wasted my tax dollars by adding Georgia to the legal challenge. Now he will waste more of my tax dollars with his “wait-and-see” policy as to the outcome of the next election. That is what toddlers do when they don’t get their way: “Mama says ’no’; I’ll wait and see what grandma says.” I do not want any of my tax dollars wasted on “delay tactics,” whereby Georgia citizens are left with no options if the Republican takeover in November does not happen.
