No excuse for another hike by Georgia Power

I hope the Georgia Public Service Commission pays attention to the consultant’s conclusion concerning Georgia Power’s next plea for a rate hike (“Consultant: Rate hike too steep,” Business, Dec. 6).

The company has long known that stricter regulations regarding emissions were coming, yet Georgia Power has taken few steps to seek clean-energy solutions for Georgians.

Resistance to change should not be the reason for another rate hike in this economic climate — when more people than ever are having to seek help paying energy bills.

We see coyotes because they’ve nowhere to go

There are different views regarding trapping (and ultimately killing) coyotes. They are starving and coming to the suburbs. They prey on pets let out for a walk.

This is a dilemma. In the early 2000s, I saw coyotes on my property in northwest Georgia. They were killed by local residents to save farm animals.

With so much useless development occurring in the county where I live, wildlife does not stand a chance.

I do not have an answer to this problem. If there were anywhere to release the coyotes, that would be an option.

These wild animals have nowhere to go. It’s sad, but true — what do we do?

It seems Gingrich, like others, doesn’t get it

While I appreciate Newt Gingrich explaining that the suffering caused by illegal immigration was a failure of our government, his suggesting that another government program or more laws could somehow fix the problem is laughable.

While the media and politicians continue to show images of those who oppose amnesty as horrible beings who enjoy ripping families apart, I say we have never wanted or supported such an act to the point of our own suffering.

Somehow, residents asking that their government stop economically destroying them by allowing uncontrolled millions to live here and work under a system that rewards illegal immigrants doesn’t seem to resonate with the media (or politicians like Gingrich).

We are asking that our government stop destroying our families. Newt Gingrich seems to want to demonize that request, and shows that he has no clue as to the suffering that uncontrolled illegal immigration has caused to working Americans.

We are waiting for the candidate who understands how much uncontrolled illegal immigration has hurt Americans’ ability to feed their own families.
