hazing
Get the facts before passing judgment
What a shame that DeKalb County schools have decided to suspend marching band activities while they investigate possible inappropriate activities.
Since they’ve suspended marching band activities, it would only be reasonable for them to suspend all school days, while they investigate hazing or bullying at all schools that currently takes place. I would also expect now that any time a football player becomes ill during practice on hot summer days, that they would also suspend all football practice.

Rationally examine guns on campuses
Regarding guns on campus, while this highly charged debate rages on, it’s sometimes helpful to highlight facts (rather than to engage in conjecture and hyperbole).
The only students who might legally carry would need to be 21 years old to qualify for a weapons permit — thus eliminating the vast majority of undergraduate students. These adults would also need to pass a stringent background check to verify they are, and have been, law-abiding citizens. Despite claims to the contrary, an extremely small percentage of college students would qualify — and an even smaller amount of those who do would opt to apply for a permit.
Given the recent trends and the escalation of forcible felonies on and around campus and elsewhere, how can anyone deprive these law-abiding, adult students of the right to defend themselves and others?

Barry bonds
Steroid cases a waste of time and money
After years of senate hearings, federal court litigating and millions (most likely billions) of dollars in taxpayer money, we finally got a verdict in the Barry Bonds case. Now there will be an appeal, which could take a few years and millions more — all to get to the bottom of the pressing question of which professional athletes do drugs.
Nobody cares. The only people who care are the criminally negligent politicians on the committees looking into this stuff, who are trying to get name recognition. I have asked my senator to look into the cost of this fiasco.
With all the other stuff we have going on in this country, the United States government continues to waste tax dollars on something that really is none of its business.
