Praise Chambliss for

reaching across aisle

I consider myself a moderate Republican. I voted for Mr. Chambliss for his first term. I did not vote for him for a second term. At the time, I felt Mr. Chambliss had never seen an earmark he would not pass, or a spending bill he would not support, and gave a rubber stamp on whatever President Bush proposed.

At the sacrifice of much of his political support base, he has moved left of the tea party, and has reached across the aisle to try to bridge the gap on many key issues. He has shown guts and intelligence in his actions. I feel the tea party is out of touch with mainstream America and will destroy the Republican Party. I feel that the Democrats who call themselves “liberals ” are determined to turn America into a welfare state.

If moderate Democrats would oppose President Obama and his leadership in the House and Senate, and more Republicans would move a little left of the tea party, maybe they could get something done, and get the country moving forward. That will (obviously) never happen. I applaud Sen. Chambliss for trying.

Just try buying your

own health insurance

Buying medical insurance as a single-party purchaser is a bear. Many people who oppose the Affordable Care Act have coverage from their employer or receive direct payment by a government unit. For a practical education, these folks should try to purchase medical insurance as a single buyer and see what they can get, how much it costs, and the terms of the insurance. They would be shocked.

It’s interesting that the government(s) have subsidized corporate health care plans by allowing a tax deduction for years. Governments at all levels have simply provided health care insurance to their employees.

Why, then, is there such a furor over the Affordable Care Act — which simply paves the way for people to buy needed insurance?

We’re exceptional, so

we can spy on friends

Regarding the international phone spying brouhaha, don’t forget that when you are an “exceptional nation,” you get to do whatever you want — and friendly nations be damned.

Obama’s legacy safe;

it’s just unbelievable

Until events of the last few days, Germany was a top friend of the Obama administration. No more: Obama was spying and got caught.

Either the president has learned nothing, or is so arrogant that he doesn’t care what lesser people think. The lies from Operation Fast and Furious and Benghazi and now the steady stream of lies about Obamacare are of no consequence to our president. His legacy as the most unbelievable president is intact.
