Southerners must part ways with flag

To the letter-writer lamenting the loss of Southern culture: My friend, I feel your pain (“Southern culture going way of dodo,” Readers Write, Oct. 20). But the following must be said: While we love our traditions we must part ways with veneration of the Confederate flag.

Let’s love and preserve positive Southern character. Let’s not ignore, though, the facts of history. That flag was waved in defense of slavery, and was resurrected in defense of Jim Crow. It was and always will be a symbol of racism. It belongs in a museum, and only in a museum.

Why is media out to get Trump?

The terror of Trump’s possibly being elected president is pervading both major political parties, the media and everyone else except about half of the American people who are sick of the mess we are in after eight years of a hapless president who had zero qualifications to be there. I am puzzled about why he has these groups hissing and gnawing their fingers.

What is stimulating the unbelievable opposition/persecution he is getting? Is it that he wants to drain the sewage in Washington? Is it his wanting to secure the border and maintain our sovereignty? Is it his wanting to keep out the influx of potential terrorists? Is it his wanting to put people back to work with good jobs and increase the standard of living for all our citizens? Is it his wanting to lower taxes on those paying taxes and thus increase everyone’s spending power? This writer believes that he is our last hope to save this country from itself. This election is not over. Hillary supporters had better delay their pats on the back.
