Let League of Women Voters moderate debates
My response to complaints about the presidential debate moderators? Bring back the League of Women Voters! These days, journalists seem to have difficulty hiding their bias. So how to avoid that? Use moderators that are impartial and just want to inform the public on the issues. Let’s stop trying to incite a scene. Viewers like me would much prefer to focus on the urgent topics we base our votes on, versus who had the best “zinger” in a so-called debate.

“Black Attitude” kills blacks
The South Carolina incident is precisely why the apparent disparity exists when it comes to blacks versus whites being shot by police. The main underlying truth is because of the “Black Attitude” they grow up with. They don’t respect parents, caregivers or authority in general. If you don’t have respect for your parents, or whoever is raising you, you won’t have respect for anybody. This obviously doesn’t apply to all black children, but those who want to conform and actually learn something in school are disparaged by other blacks as “‘trying to be white.” Back to the shootings; in every case the black victim has disregarded instruction/orders from the police. They have grown up with the lack of respect and the “I am a victim” excuses. Why more white people are not being shot? They have enough common sense and respect for authority not to resist or run away.

What caused global warming prior to now?
I am writing in reference to Jim Galloway’s column, (“On the Georgia coast, climate change has become more than theoretical,” News, Oct. 31). I agree that the earth is experiencing climate change. Admittedly, there is scientific proof that the earth is in a pattern of warming. However, meteorologists have only kept official temperature records for 134 years and the earth has been in existence for four billion years. Could this warming pattern just be something that happens naturally every three, four or five hundred years? There is scientific proof that the earth has experienced severe climate changes since its existence. Scientists believe that our planet has experienced at least five separate “ ice age” periods with subsequent periods of warming, causing the earth to “thaw out.” In reality, notable man-made pollution has only existed about 125 years. My question for all of the “global warming fanatics” is: If man-made pollution is responsible for the present warming period, who is responsible for the severe weather patterns prior to the 20th century and the Industrial Revolution?
