‘Good guys’ deserve

everybody’s thanks

Daily, I am saddened by the things I read about n the AJC that are done by “bad guys and gals.” Then I find that there are good guys and gals doing good things which (unfortunately) go unnoticed.

Here’s a case in point: When I recently underwent a minor surgical procedure performed at a local hospital, I was introduced to Ralph, a volunteer there. For a long time, Ralph had dutifully been at his dying wife’s bedside at the hospital. During that time, he became friendly with members of the hospital staff. When his wife died, he decided that he would become a volunteer at the hospital.

Following my procedure, Ralph was assigned to push me and my wheelchair from the operating room down to the hospital entrance, where he would assist me in getting into my wife’s waiting car. I thought, here is a “good guy” doing good things, and I was gladdened by the thought.

The many people like Ralph need to be recognized and applauded for what they do. The AJC needs to tell their stories — and to help to balance the daily bad things with the daily good things.

POLITICS

Too much at stake

to look backwards

Regarding “Women hold balance of power” (News, Oct. 28), by demographics, this 50-something suburban mom should be voting for Mitt Romney. I’m not.

My vote for President Obama is about character, and the consistency of holding the same position throughout the campaign season. I know in January who will show up.

It’s about value, and not wanting our education, medical research programs, food safety and infrastructure to be decimated so that the 1 percenters pay less tax. It’s about the math. Tax cuts alone will never get us out of the economic mess the Bush years gave us. We need a balanced approach that all credible economists advocate.

Finally, it’s about leadership, and possessing the skills and ability to be on a global stage, and not insult the country you are visiting. This requires in-depth knowledge of foreign affairs, keen political savvy and the articulation skills to communicate effectively.

Women’s issues this election season are one of many reasons to vote for President Obama. Let’s keep our reproductive rights and health care advances, and not go backward in time. Too much is at stake.

Defeat Obama before

he does more damage

Wake up, America.

Do you want four more years of heavy debt, broken promises, and ignorance of (or at least, ignoring) the Constitution? If elected again, President Obama won’t worry about the next election. He will do as he pleases (with or without congressional approval). Our very way of life will change.

The middle class will fall beneath the burden. Taxes will eventually take at least half of what you make. Small business people will give up.

Don’t be a part of the take-over of America. Vote President Obama out. His policies have failed. Now, he must fail to be re-elected — before he does more damage to our country and its people.

FORECLOSURES

Besieged borrowers

need refinance option

There are two problems that are causing home foreclosures: Individuals are facing monthly payments they cannot meet, and they owe more money on the loan than the property is worth.

The solution is simple. Get an appraisal on the property value in the present market. Allow the home owner to refinance at the lower interest rate. In some cases, the monthly payment could be lowered significantly. The homeowner could afford the new payment, and everyone benefits by allowing the owner to stay in the home.

This solution could benefit a lot of individuals, and the economy.
