SEQUESTER

Officials should feel

spending cuts’ impact

The spending cuts that are expected to occur because of the sequester should touch our elected representatives and senators as well. These government workers should not be immune from job furloughs.

I think that these representatives have not been working full time in their tasks of representing the people. It also seems that they act like young children in protecting their own political turf, their stubbornness and their inability to compromise.

Bipartisan push could

get nation moving again

We have a government that is crumbling, and the most disappointing Congress on record. Our nation cannot continue in the manner in which our government is operating. We must seek to find a way to work together — Democrats and Republicans — to establish a cooperative effort at the grassroots level to bring our nation back in line. It is up to every American to look inside themselves to help to find a solution, for the solution lies within us. We have the power to change. This can and must be done if we are to endure.

There is no need to point fingers. We must all work together to find the solution which will bring a nation in turmoil back into harmony. It can be done. A nation born of the divine can do it.

May the peace of the divine spirit be in each of our leaders of this nation, and may they lead us into the destiny that is ours — one of greatness, and great prosperity.

ELIZABETH HINESLEY, CORNELIA

Elections are over; it’s

time to start governing

The political maneuvering in Washington regarding the budget has been in a long, slow descent into mindlessness for many years. Our elected leadership has failed to transition from campaigning to governing. They seem to forget that campaigns have a purpose and a season — and now it is time to get on with making the hard choices.

We elected these leaders to question, study, debate and choose. Instead, we have gotten delay, maneuver and horribly written laws that endanger our future and breed mistrust of our government. The Senate has not passed a legitimate budget in more than four years, resorting instead to deceitful maneuvering in backroom deals and placing blame on political opponents. Our nation deserves better than this.

It is well past time for our elected leadership to govern and lead, and not hide behind automatic cuts and fear-mongering.
