Third party needed now more than ever
If we ever needed more proof that the two major political parties in the U.S. are just two sides of the same coin, witness our Secretary of State, John Kerry, saying the Turkish airport bombing just shows how “desperate” the terrorists are. Oh yes, we certainly have them on the run. If you are feeling a sense of déjà vu, then you remember back 13 years ago. Under the Bush administration, the Iraqi threat was being done by “dead-enders” and “gangsters.” Just a last gasp, chaotic effort by the disenfranchised of the country. Each party then, as now, rightly blasted the other when they tried to spin the reality for the American populace. We need a viable third party in this country and now.

Dems note entitled to disrupt House order
Republicans aren’t John Lewis’ only critics (“‘Reliving My Life,’” News, June 26). Former Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz, a self-proclaimed “liberal Democrat, supporter of Hillary Clinton,” told CNN the protesters made “fools of themselves, sitting in on Congress and pulling this kind of stunt.” He called them “a bunch of buffoons, playing games, sitting on the floor, screaming and singing.”
Lewis regularly reminds us that he “shed a little blood” at Selma, but his sacrifice there doesn’t entitle him to disrupt House order. Imagine the chaos if every member of Congress, including those who shed blood in the military, practiced “civil disobedience” on the House floor. Lewis’ ill-advised stunt contributes to the divisiveness and gridlock that plague our government.
