Views not so balanced
I hope that AJC’s “Balanced Views” Opinion page from Dec. 28 is not a forecast of 2016. Paul Krugman was trashing George W. Bush again. John Branch, guest cartoonist, was demeaning Jeb Bush again. Mona Charen was listing the “deficiencies” of Trump. She also suggested that Cruz and Rubio were guilty of “scheming — or outright dishonesty — it leaves a bad taste.” Indeed. If there is “something rotten in Denmark,” it isn’t the only place. Continued political favoritism presented as balanced views also has its own special aroma and flavor.

A tale of two characters
As the New Year begins, it’s important to recognize how we live our daily lives reflect what’s important and valuable to us. Your Sunday Jan. 3 front page and metro page stories gave us a glimpse of two contrasting characters. The Rollins Saga: Greed, vengeance, victimhood and materialism. Then there’s Que Newbill, the ex-homeless law student: Perseverance, gratitude, generosity and service. Who would you choose to be more like in 2016?

Get lawmakers out of D.C.
I feel there is too much power in Washington. It needs to be cut back, I think. Why not force our representatives to do their voting while they are inside their voting districts? Congress gets pressured from many fronts, but I feel the most pressure should come from the representative’s districts. If this is possible, the lobbying groups would then be spread out. The news media would also be spread out. All the president’s people would have a harder time helping him get his or her way — all presidents. “Go to meeting” sounds like the way to go. Most everyone has seen the commercials on “Go to Meeting.”
