Dems sounded whiny in “resistance” to Trump speech
President Trump’s State of the Union address celebrated those achieving the American Dream as, “Americans are dreamers, too.” He demonstrated strong leadership reminiscent of President Reagan’s “shining city on a hill.” By contrast, Rep. Joe Kennedy, D-Mass., in his Democratic rebuttal spoke of darkness, despair and the worst of the human condition. Black Lives Matter and others mired in the abysmal antisocial abyss of victimhood were celebrated. Democrats obviously believe that Kennedy is their poster boy coming to the rescue. Recent history indicates otherwise. Americans have had their fill of the Kennedys, Clintons and Bushes. Most, not all, Democratic members of Congress reconfirmed their intention to “resist.” President Trump further solidified his connection with the American people, even many Democrats. Most would agree that he can keep his day job.

In an interview with CNN, Sarah Sanders issued a challenge to Democrats: “They need to decide, do they love America more than they hate this president?” This is a paraphrase of a famous quote attributed to Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir: “Peace will come when the Arabs love their children more than they hate us.” But that ignores the causal link between love and hate. Democrats hate Trump because they love America. It is precisely their love of country, and their respect for democratic ideals and traditions, that have led Democrats to viscerally oppose a president who is happy to fan the flames of division and conflict as long as his ego is gratified. Sanders should have asked, “What will it take for Democrats to stop hating this president?” But she knows the answer, and for that to happen, she would be out of a job.
