State shouldn’t say no

to Medicaid expansion

I would argue that while the governor suggests that we can’t afford the cost for the Medicaid expansion, the refusal of billions in federal funds is an even greater cost we cannot afford.

Consider the benefit that these funds would make in local communities throughout this state. The resulting state tax that would result from that infusion of funds would cover much of the investment. But when you consider the multiplier effect of those funds spent in local communities throughout the state (jobs, facilities, supplies, rents, groceries, tax, etc.), it is very short-sighted to refuse to participate in the Medicaid expansion.

And, this doesn’t take into account the value of the improved health of our population, and the increased support of our health care system. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot!

View broken system

as an economic issue

Despite the enormous amount spent on Medicare, Medicaid and other programs, we still have millions either uncovered or inadequately covered. Other developed countries cover all of their citizens at less than half of what we spend per year per person. No matter the propaganda, we cannot characterize countries like Israel, Switzerland, Germany, England, etc. as socialist countries.

In the absence of high moral standards and a sense of social responsibility, we can at least look at our broken medical delivery system from a purely economic perspective. Of course, we cannot destroy the current delivery network, but we can do what some countries have done, where insurance companies provide the coverage. What is medical insurance is well-defined, and companies provide basic coverage.

Americans are known for their ingenuity, innovation and bold experimentation. Why are we unable to handle the problem of our health care delivery system?

Liberals never happy

with existing gun laws

There are thousands of gun laws in effect in this nation.

When will mental midgets like Bob Costas and his Progressive/Liberal/Democrat clones be satisfied with enough “gun control”?

I think we need speech control (never mind the First Amendment).

Cartoon disrespectful

to ex-POW McCain

In the Nov. 30 AJC, U.S. Sen. John McCain was portrayed as a clown by Mike Luckovich (Opinion).

This is the same John McCain who endured over five years of physical and mental abuse as a POW during the Vietnam War. It seems that many on the left (including Mike Luckovich) are consumed with hate for anyone Republican, or supporting the right.
