Blocking I-85 is criminal, dangerous

If this were prior to the Ferguson shooting, nobody and no one would contest that pedestrians blocking I-85 are creating a public nuisance and public hazard. Every one of those protesters should have been arrested and charged. They were given a chance to protest peacefully and civilly, and they chose to do otherwise. Until the consequences for criminal civil disorder outweigh the goals of protesters engaging in criminal behavior, this will continue to happen. Until our police, mayors and governors quit sucking their thumbs, get some courage and hold these people accountable, innocent lives will continue to be put in danger.

Blacks kill blacks; why no outcry?

Why don’t black people protest equally when blacks kill other blacks? We do not witness Al Sharpton leading protest marches when blacks murder other blacks. News channels are overrun with disturbing trends of black-on-black murder. Many feel black-on-black murder amounts to a form of black self-genocide. The prisons have been overcrowded for decades with blacks. It is said that the black prison overpopulation is also a form of black self-genocide. Further, the increasing black abortion rate has prompted concerns if the murder of black embryos might be equivalent to yet another form of black self-murder.

While it seems appropriate black people should deem it intolerable when a white person unjustly kills a black person, why don’t black people become equally alarmed when blacks kill other blacks? Surely black-on-black murder, the black prison population and black abortions are taking their total on black life. If it is the sanctity of black life that concerns black people and not just racial issues, then it is incumbent upon all Americans to protest. We should become alarmed when any life is taken from us unjustly — not just murder of a black life, or when a white kills a black person. All Americans should become alarmed when any life is taken from us unnecessarily.

End media focus on Martin, Brown

The beyond-reasonable media focus on Trayvon Martin and now, Michael Brown, must stop. The resulting heated-up passions and violence weaken our country and embolden our enemies because they drain our police and military forces away from our national security priorities to counter acts of domestic violence, whether anticipated or real.

Some Tech fans show little respect

Georgia Tech fans showed little respect after their victory against Georgia Saturday in Athens. Several of their players and fans ripped up the famed hedges on the Sanford Stadium field. This crosses the line of fan behavior, to destroy such a big part of UGA’s tradition and pride.
