Pols shouldn’t be involved in judicial oversight

According to our state’s politicians, our judges are not monitored effectively by the independent Judicial Qualifications Commission. Lawmakers think the organization would provide greater transparency and accountability with more political influence. Ha!

According to the commission’s chairman, Lester Tate, political interference is not new to JQC’s work. But now it’s gotten so bad that he resigned in protest.

There are serious flaws with our state’s laws governing our state-level judges. According to a study by The Center for Public Integrity, Georgia received a letter grade of D- for Judicial Accountability. Much is needed to improve the transparency of how our judges operate. However, removing the function of oversight from an independent commission and placing it in the hands of politicians would likely politicize our judiciary.

Falcons not as good minus Roddy White

I have been a rabid Falcons fan since Tommy Nobis was drafted for their first season. Nobis was one of the finest Falcons ever. So was Roddy White.

Roddy was a neighbor of mine, who always showed class as a neighbor and as an athlete. He was an asset as a neighbor, even when some neighbors were not “neighborly” to him. He played a pick-up game of “pickle ball” with my friends and astonished us with his pure athletic ability, during his first try at the game. He graciously autographed a picture for my grandson with a personal message. As a Falcon, he would take a vicious hit and jump up grinning at his tackler. He set records as a Falcons receiver, but never complained when his role was arbitrarily and foolishly diminished. The Falcons decided they no longer want Roddy. I am no longer a Falcons fan.
