BOSTON BOMBINGS
Pray for God’s help, and no more tragedies
Shortly after the the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, I submitted a letter to the editor of this newspaper containing a simple prayer: “My God, my God, please be with us all.”
I again make that same prayer after what happened this week in Boston — only this time, I add the words “… and may this be the last time anything like this ever happens again.”

Thanks to everyone who helped after fall
I wanted to write to say “thank you” to the Good Samaritans who stopped to help me after a recent fall onto concrete at a local grocery parking lot.
I am elderly. I injured my nose, which bled quite a bit. I could not get up on own. I injured my leg as well as my arm. Emergency personnel were called, and these Samaritans stayed with me until help arrived. They gave me tissues to stop the bleeding and one of them tried to reach my son for me. When they could not get him, they texted him to let him know I was being taken to a nearby medical center.
The emergency personnel were great. They got me cleaned up, and checked me to ensure there no more cuts.
After a number of X-rays, it was determined that I had broken my nose — but there were no other breaks, only bruises.
I’d like to say “thank you” to all those who helped me that day.

SECOND AMENDMENT
Don’t call crackdown on crooks ‘gun control’
We must close loopholes to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and those who are not mentally stable. This is just plain common sense.
Some folks are opposed to the legislation proposed in Washington that attempts to do this, because these steps are being called “gun control” — but that is actually not the proper name for these steps. Rather, they should be called “criminal control.” That is something that everyone in our state and country should solidly support. It is common sense.

TERRORISM
Muslim clerics should decry innocent deaths
I would address the problem of terrorism by undertaking a worldwide effort to convince Islamic clerics to meet in convocation, to condemn those who would advance a cause by killing innocents. The goal would be to convince such a convocation to issue a joint fatwa against organizations and individuals who pursue such killings.
I would also go before the United Nations and ask for a General Assembly resolution to condemn the use of suicide bombers and other individuals whose purpose is to kill innocents.
