Georgia’s religious liberty bills, currently gaining steam in the General Assembly, are an effort to legalize discrimination against disfavored groups, writes former state Attorney General Mike Bowers in today’s lead column. In other states where similar laws have passed, Bowers says, they are being used to discriminate against Muslims and homosexuals and to upend existing laws. In our second column, a supporter of the bills maintains a religious liberty law is necessary to assure people they can live out their faith without fear of government retaliation.
