As temperatures in one Virginia city topped 105 degrees, an 8-year-old boy went the extra mile to make sure his mailman stayed safe in the heat.

Carmine McDaniel of Newport News, Virginia has always had a special relationship with his mailman. On Thursday, as temperatures climbed to dangerous levels, he immediately thought of the man who has to walk door to door delivering mail.

"I just thought because it was really hot outside and I didn't want him to maybe pass out or anything, because they are really important so people can pay their bills and stuff like that. I didn't want him to pass out, pretty much," Carmine told WVEC.

Carmine filled up a cooler with ice and cold drinks, so the mailman could catch a moment of relief in the scorching heat.

His mom posted a sweet video to Instagram showing the mailman’s appreciation for the small gesture.

“Yes! I’ll take ’em all!” the mailman is heard saying on camera. “I’ll take a water and a Gatorade.”

He told WVEC that these small gestures make the summer much more bearable.

“It makes it worthwhile,” said the mailman.
