WWII veteran tears up when he finishes what he started 70 years ago

A 90-year-old World War II veteran has finally received his high school diploma, 72 years after he left school to fight in WWII.

George Fricovsky choked up Tuesday as administrators presented him with a diploma at Riverside High School in Taylor, Pennsylvania.

His grandson now works at the school and presented the diploma to Fricovsky, WNEP reports.

“He’s always talked about his one thing he wishes he was able to do was to graduate high school,” said his grandson, Vice Principal David Walsh.

Fricovsky left high school in 1944 when he was a junior to fight in the war. He never thought he would graduate, until his grandson made it happen.

“I was really surprised, never expected this,” said Fricovsky.
