tragic weekend police call ended with a Memphis woman charged with child abuse and a 10-year-old boy dead.

Robin McKinzie is charged with aggravated child abuse and endangerment after her 10-year-old son died Saturday afternoon from a self-inflicted knife wound, police said.

The boy was found bleeding from the upper torso and was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived.

He was rushed to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead an hour later.

Police said McKinzie told first responders she was whipping her son with an extension cord and choking him as a form of discipline when the child became angry.

She said he ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed himself in the chest.

The incident is still under investigation.

McKinzie was jailed on $100,000 bond.
