A man who was found asleep in his car at a green light on U.S. 1 Monday morning was arrested by St. Johns County Deputies.
When police found the driver, Rafael Feliciano, he was stopped right in the middle of U.S. 1. They say he stopped before that light, his headlights were on and the light was green; however, he wasn't moving, and appeared to be passed out.
Police did everything in their power to get this person awakened. Police placed wooden planks in front of the driver's wheels and parked the driver in, all to prevent him from trying to move if he suddenly woke up.
“In this case the individual was so incoherent we have to wonder when he got there, did he know where he was, and if he would have awakened on his own, would he have known where he was going, and would have someone crossed his path,” SJSO Commander Chuck Mulligan said.
After deputies made multiple attempts to awaken Feliciano, St. Johns County Fire Rescue arrived and broke out the passenger-side window. Deputies were then able to awaken Feliciano who was arrested for driving under the influence. He also faces a charge of obstructing a roadway.
