A panicked family got a more intimate view of wildlife than they bargained for when a black bear opened the door of their van in a video that has gone viral.

The family was traveling through Yellowstone Bear World in Idaho when they spotted the bear nearby, a Yellowstone National Park spokeswoman told The Huffington Post.

In a video of the incident, the bear can be seen checking out the front passenger's side door.

"Dad, the bear's right next to us," a child says just before the bear gets on its hind legs and opens the van door.

The children start screaming. The man in the front seat manages to close the door as the van takes off.

It was originally reported that the intimate encounter took place at Yellowstone National Park. However, park spokeswoman Charissa Reid said that was inaccurate.

"We've never had a report of this in the 21 years I've worked here," she told the website.

Employees at Yellowstone Bear World, a wildlife park in Rexburg, Idaho, could not immediately confirm the incident to The Huffington Post.
