A beer challenge for home brewers comes from an Oregon utility.
The catch is the winner probably won't become the next big name in craft beer because one required ingredient is treated sewer water.
The bigger message than crafting beer in the Pure Water Brew Challenge is to get people talking about how a vital resource can be reused thanks to advanced filtration systems.
The utility will provide 300 gallons of the treated water to the brewmasters. The victor wins $100 and their kegs will be taken to an international water conference in Chicago. While the water is approved as safe by state officials, the beer will not be sold in stores or bars.
While it might sound odd to drink waste water, places from Singapore to Texas already mix heavily treated effluent with drinking water.
