Two boys are recovering in the hospital after falling through the ice into a pond on Saturday in Massachusetts.
Police say the 9- and 12-year-old boys climbed over a fence to get to the pond, which was not fully frozen.
Friends say they were meeting up to play football when the boys fell in.
"When the ice broke I started crying, so I went to my mom's friend's house and got my uncle," 10-year-old Alberto said.
Another boy ran and flagged down a passing car that Rand Pierce was in.
Pierce said the water in the pond was up to his knees while he was looking for the boys.
Pierce and another adult were able to save one of the boys. When police arrived they rescued the other.
"One was conscious, he was speaking to me when he came out. He was a little blue in the face, but he was speaking. The other was non-responsive," Pierce said.
The older boy was in critical condition when he was taken to the hospital, there is no word on the younger boy's condition.
