He will likely not live to see his own graduation, but that didn’t mean that 6-year-old Jordan Planitz couldn’t earn a high school diploma before then.
Last weekend, Planitz earned an honorary diploma from Buffalo, Ill.’s Tri-City High School. Planitz got to know the senior class in the time leading up to the graduation and received a standing ovation when he was given his degree.
Planitz has a rare condition characterized by brain abnormalities and excess fluid inside his skull, according to the State Journal-Register of Springfield, Ill.
They added that he was “born with megalencephaly, polymicrogyria, polydactyly and hydrocephalus syndrome, or MPPH syndrome — a terminal condition characterized by brain abnormalities and excess fluid inside the skull. Jordan's brain will likely outgrow his skull, causing a fatal seizure.”
“There are only nine documented cases of MPPH syndrome worldwide.”
According to Fox News, class president Makenzie Lyons said that Jordan taught the students "how precious life really is and how much we take it for granted."
Planitz was given a hug by valedictorian Bethany Daniels as he was handed his diploma with his parents, Deanna and Andrew.
