Many voters in New Hampshire welcomed Donald Trump Monday with open arms but a South Carolina lawmaker told WSOC-TV the Republican presidential candidate is no longer welcome in the Palmetto State after a Muslim woman was escorted out of Trump's rally in Rock Hill Friday.
When you cross Rock Hill city limits, you'll pass a sign stating "No Room for Racism.” Rep. John King said he's trying to make sure they live up to the slogan by filing a resolution to ban Trump.
"I've heard Donald Trump insult immigrants, African-Americans, women, war heroes," King said in a phone interview. "I just reached a point where enough was enough."
King said the last straw dropped on Friday when a Muslim woman was escorted from a Trump rally after standing up in silent protest when Trump made a comment about Syrian refugees having ties to ISIS.
"I was sick to my stomach," King said.
But the rally was packed with Trump supporters.
"He's a multimillionaire,” Kimberly Gaffney said. “He's got a huge conglomeration of companies. I think if he can run that with his own money, he ought to be able to run the country."
The latest poll out of New Hampshire shows the candidate leading all other Republicans by 18 percent.
"Trump has his own views and a lot of people support that, I personally don't agree with them whatsoever but we allow for those freedoms in this country," said Allen Hull.
Hull, who works in South Carolina, said the resolution would represent his views.
A resolution is not a binding law but more of a statement. And King hopes it sends a strong message.
"My resolution will get a sense of the house of representatives on who supports Donald Trump and his bigotry and who stands with us those of us who thinks that his rhetoric is sickening," said King.
We reached out to Trump's South Carolina campaign headquarters and have not heard back.
King plans to file the resolution when the session resumes Tuesday.
