Riders on the tallest ride in a section of the Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, North Carolina, got stuck with almost two dozen people more than 20 feet in the air.
Carowinds amusement park hasn't indicated why a roller coaster designed for children got stuck Saturday.
Fire crews eventually evacuated the ride after it got stuck mid-air with riders still on it.
Park officials said the Flying Ace Aerial Chase got stuck around 10 p.m. Saturday.
Carowinds spokeswoman Laresa Thompson says the ride's safety features shut it down if computers detect a glitch.
Firefighters said about 20 children and adults were stuck about 20 feet in the air before park staff was able to get them down.
WSOC-TV talked to visitors about what happened as they left the park.
"That's why I don't get on them, because I'm scared of getting stuck in the air. I'm scared of heights." Melissa Smart, a park visitor, said.
The Flying Ace Aerial Chase is the tallest ride in a section of the amusement park devoted to rides for smaller children.
The amusement park just reopened to visitors last month when it unveiled its new thrill ride Fury 325.
