Newly released incident reports offer accounts from Orange County deputies who responded to the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub.
The deputies served as backup to Orlando police.
In total, almost 130 deputies were at the scene, but 21 went inside the building.
The first ones to respond said when they arrived, gunfire could still be heard from inside the nightclub.
From there, many deputies focused on getting victims to safety, monitoring the building’s exits, and securing perimeters.
Some also checked the parking lot for explosives and joined teams protecting Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Some deputies explained that after the initial response, they helped the medical examiner identify the victims using fingerprint programs.
