Report: Shoplifter pushed stroller with baby into traffic to escape

A woman who was shoplifting Thursday from a department store shoved a baby in a stroller toward an employee to avoid being detained, according to police reports.

A Belk employee said that Linda Ganson Thompson was trying to hide items in her baby stroller Thursday. The employee approached Thompson in the parking lot when she shoved the stroller towards him, and that is when he grabbed the baby stopping the stroller from moving into the road.

More than $300 worth of stolen items were in a Belk bag in the stroller, police said.

Thompson was arrested on the scene, but she gave a fictitious name. She has multiple forgery convictions and financial identity convictions, according to the police report.

It is not known if Thompson is related to the baby in the stroller.
