A group of Phoenix police officers helped make the holidays bright for a struggling mother and her son.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers met Kristen May while responding to a call. She told the officers that she was having financial trouble after losing her job and that she was facing eviction from her home.
"I lost my job," May told KXCO. "I lost day care. I was completely at rock bottom."
May, who has a 4-year-old son Nicholas, said she worried that she wouldn't be able to give him any presents this year.
When a group of police officers learned what happened, they contacted a local Home Depot store that helped get a tree for the family for free.
The officers delivered it on top of a Phoenix police car.
"I cried like a little kid," May said. "My son gets to experience what holidays are about thanks to what these officers did and are doing. It shows they don't just arrest people."
The officers didn't stop there. They're also planning to collect gifts for Nicholas and his mother.
A group called Angels on Patrol is covering May's rent this month.
After the kindness from the police officers, things are looking up for May and her son. She told KXCO that she was hired for a new job last week and will be returning to work soon.
