A photo of a police officer buying a homeless man lunch has gone viral.

Alex Fischbach told KWQC that he was with his fiancee at a Morrison, Illinois, McDonald's Saturday when he saw a police officer pull up to the fast-food restaurant.

A homeless man was in the back seat of the Whiteside County sheriff's deputy's squad car.

"(The officer) went up to the lady at the counter, kind of explained the situation, how he picked him up," Fischbach said.

Fischbach said the officer asked if the man could stay in the restaurant for awhile because it was cold outside. The woman said it was fine.

"Then he was kind of just talking to the guy and asked him if he had enough money," Fischbach said. "The guy said, 'Yeah, I'm fine.' And he said 'Here, let me give you some more.' The guy tried to refuse. Obviously the cop, being an awesome person, was like, 'No, let me give you some more.' So he gave him some. They shook hands and the cop walked out."

Fischbach snapped an image of the moment and posted it to Facebook.

In the caption, he said the officer "wasn't looking for any recognition, or any form of gratitude. He did it purely out of the kindness of his heart.

"Most (police officers) are very compassionate people who do their job the right way," Fischbach said. "He wasn't really looking for any recognition or anything. It was just really awesome to see."
