Two Texas parents woke to an unpleasant surprise before daybreak this week.
Trisha Wilhelm and her husband were awakened to the sound of dogs barking shortly 4 a.m., according to KHOU.com.
They traced the sounds to the bathroom.
A raccoon had gotten into their home via the dog door and was headed for the dog food before it was cornered by the dogs.
"The raccoon was up against the wall and one of the dogs was right next to it and the other dog was in front of him, barking at him." Wilhelm told KHOU.com.
The homeowners could tell that the raccoon was scared. They shut the door and called animal control, but no one showed up. So, after an hour of waiting, the couple blocked off the kitchen in hopes that the raccoon would go straight out the back door once they opened the bathroom door.
Fortunately for the Wilhelms, the raccoon walked out calmly and without any other disturbances.
The most amazing part? Their children slept through the whole thing, the report said.
