The video of De'Andre Johnson getting into a fight with a woman at a bar Tallahassee last month, has gone viral.
It appears the woman hits Johnson first, and then he punches her in the face.
He was kicked off the FSU football team after the video surfaced.
But De’Andre Johnson’s friend is now trying to change that.
“The punishment that De’Andre received for the altercation he had with the woman was unfair and unjust,” said Alexis Shoemaker.
Alexis Shoemaker created a petition on change.org, hoping to get enough signatures to persuade Coach Jimbo Fischer to allow him back.
She says she believes is Johnson would have been in a fight with a man instead of a woman he would have been given a less severe punishment.
“If this altercation had occurred between him and another guy I believe the legal system would have taken care of it. He may have been suspended for a while but would have been right back on the team,” she said.
We also found those who did not support the petition, and thought his punishment was justified.
“Whether she instigated or not that's not the proper response,” said a man named John.
Shoemaker says while she doesn’t support Johnson’s actions, she thinks the woman involved also needs to be held accountable and hopes Johnson will get a second chance to prove himself.
We reached out to FSU’s president for comment, to see if anything could even come of this petition; we are waiting to hear back.
