A Missouri police officer had the chance to help release a once-wounded owl he had found left for dead along a busy road. The owl was cared for and nursed back to health.
St. Charles County Police Officer Adam Caupp found the barred owl along Highway 94 four weeks ago.
"We saw a big semi drive by it and almost blew it over. So we figured something was wrong with it," Caupp told KTVI-TV.
“It was not flying. She looked pretty banged up. She looked like she got hit by something, like ‘I need a minute and it hurts’,” said Sherry Seavers of the World Bird Sanctuary.
The bird sanctuary cared for the bird, which had suffered from a bruised or fractured collarbone and was blind in one eye.
Now, four weeks later, Caupp was on hand to help release the owl back into the wild.
The owl flew into a tree and after it caught its bearings, it took off into the wild.
“Yeah, he flew right up into the tree; didn’t bother giving us a goodbye but he was happy to be out,” Caupp said.
