One person injured after unknown device placed on tree explodes at UNC Chapel Hill

Authorities are investigating after video showed a small explosion Thursday afternoon at a well-known tree on UNC Chapel Hill’s campus in North Carolina.

An alert from the school said a small device was detonated in McCorkle Place at the Davie Poplar tree, according to WTVD.

A Snapchat video shows a man trying to put out the fire at the tree, and then it suddenly explodes.

Officials said the man was injured, but it's not clear how badly.

They also said a suspect is in custody related to the incident.
