An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday in the 2013 "atomic wedgie" death of his stepfather.
Brad Davis said that while his stepfather had bullied him his entire life, he never intended to kill him.
Davis was originally charged with first-degree murder. The Oklahoman reported that "Denver Lee St. Clair, 58, died when the elastic band of his torn, blue underwear was pulled over his head and ended up tightly against the front of his neck, cutting off his air."
The defense attorney said that his client never intended to kill St. Clair and didn’t even really know that he died.
“I don’t think it was even foreseeable to him,” attorney Bob Wyatt said. “When he was interviewed that night, he said, ‘Man, I did a horrible thing when I gave him that wedgie.’ … He didn’t even really know the guy died.”
Davis reportedly lived in a trailer next door and had told friends he had plans to hurt St. Clair after the latter filed for divorce from the former’s mother.
Insults hurled against his mother supposedly led to the “atomic wedgie.”
