Officer killed in Memphis, suspect in custody

Officer Terrence Olridge, a member of the department since 2014, was shot while on his way to work, his aunt and uncle said to Fox13.

His pregnant fiancé was inside the home at the time of the shooting.

The family tells FOX13 they got the call from Olridge's fiancé that he'd been shot and rushed over to the house. But by the time they got there, it was too late.

Olridge was pronounced dead not too long after he was taken to Regional One.

"We just got a call, told us he'd been shot on his way to work, that he made his way back to the door some kind of way," Jerry Kelly, Oldridge's uncle told FOX13. "I don't know exactly how he made it back, but made it back to the garage door."

Olridge's fiancé was four months pregnant with their first child and they were supposed to be married this year.

Olridge's uncle reflected on how often this seems to happen in Memphis.

"It's sad, sad it keeps on happening in Memphis," Kelly. "Just another life gets taken, someone's life gets taken another day. It's sad."

We've had two MPD officers shot and killed just a few months apart. Officer Sean Bolton was shot and killed just 72 days ago.

Many of them were just getting home from church when this happened. Everyone we talked to didn't hear any gunshots but we are told by family the shooting happened in the driveway outside Officer Olridge's home.
