A 5-month-old boy from New Castle who is desperately in need of a liver transplant was undergoing surgery Tuesday morning.

Wyatt was born with a rare infant end stage liver disease called biliary atresia. No one knows what causes it and there is no cure.

Wyatt's mother, Sara Baile, posted on Facebook Monday morning that the family was headed to Children's Hospital, where the 10-hour surgery began at  about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

"I know it's really early in the morning but we are packing bags quickly! We got the call!" she wrote.

Wyatt's surgery was delayed because the donor surgery had taken longer than expected, she said.

Sarah told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz that she's feeling all kinds of emotions -- excited, scared and total love for the family who made the heart-wrenching decision to allow their child to be an organ donor.

"He's my little angel, he's my God's gift and he's my fighter," Baile told Marcinkiewicz earlier this month. "I'm just so thankful that he has fought as long as he has."
