Police say a man was arrested after pulling a gun on a girl selling cookies door-to-door.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise says deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon shortly before noon on Sunday in Temecula.
The newspaper says the girl, whose father witnessed the incident, was going from house to house when she knocked on John M. Dodrill's door. Police say the 59-year-old opened the door and pointed a gun at the girl.
The girl's father called the police, and Dodrill was taken into custody without incident. The gun was seized for evidence.

"It's a strange case," Riverside County Deputy Alberto Martinez told the New York Daily News. "Luckily the dad was there and called police and we were able to arrest him."

Several media accounts, including CBS Los Angeles, said the victim was a Girl Scout, but the New York Daily News quoted Martinez as saying the girl was not a Girl Scout.

Jail records show Dodrill's bail was set at $25,000.
