Since then, the 33-year-old has gotten numerous texts. Many include raunchy pictures of women and others ask "Mix" to come to events.

Some offers were more tempting than others. Car dealerships would call Nichols thinking he was the rapper and offer test drives in Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

"I'd love to," Nichols said. "But I think you have the wrong guy. I'm a broke law student."

One day in particular, Nichols' phone was flooded with pictures of women sending him kissing faces and texts that said "Happy birthday," and "I love you."

The day was Aug.12, Sir-Mix-A-Lot's birthday.

One text made a reference to the rapper's hit "Baby Got Back," and Nichols started to connect the dots.

After a Google search, Nichols realized the rapper's birthday was in fact Aug. 12. "That's when it all made sense," he told The Seattle Times.

When Sir-Mix-A-Lot himself was told about Nichols' ordeal, he gave some advice.

Had the rapper known someone else was getting his number, he would tell them, "Don't check any text messages in front of your wife. That would be the first thing. And don't answer any texts by saying 'Yes,' because people take 'Yes' differently with me. And usually you end up opening your wallet."

Nichols said the ordeal makes for great conversation.

"When interviewers have asked me, 'What's something interesting (about you) that no one else knows?' or when people I meet working political campaigns tell me about meeting Bill Clinton, I always say, 'I have Sir Mix-A-Lot's old phone number.' It's a total mic drop."
