Police told WSOC they are investigating after a video surfaced on social media Tuesday depicting an act of animal cruelty in Charlotte.

Viewers reached out to Channel 9 and shared the video via social media, which appears to show a man beating a dog before placing the animal in a crate or pen.

The man in the video, Charles Lamont Davidson said he did nothing wrong.

“That right here, that wouldn't hurt her. It wouldn't hurt a two year old,” he said.

The dog was choking itself on its chain, and he was trying to get it to stop, Davidson added.

Police charged Davidson later on Wednesday with animal cruelty.

Neighbors were stunned when they saw the video.

"My wife won't even come out and look at the video because she [doesn't] want to see a dog being abused," neighbor Blaine Buffaloe said.

Davidson gave the abused canine to Animal Care and Control, police said. The dog was taken to the animal shelter and was examined by the shelter veterinarian.

The dog, Lola, displayed no physical wounds or injuries but displayed submissive behaviors, according to authorities.

A second dog, Vanilla, was also taken from Davidson and is safely in the custody of animal control.

Both dogs will remain in the shelter's care pending a trial.

The woman who posted the video on Facebook did not want to comment on camera.
