Two pilots were injured Tuesday when a T-38C Talon ran off a runway prior to takeoff at the Sheppard Air Force Base airfield in Texas, officials said.

The pilots ejected after the jet left the runway around 10:10 a.m., base officials said. One pilot was taken to United Regional Medical Center in Wichita Falls for treatment while the other was taken to the Sheppard Clinic.

Both pilots were in stable condition after the crash, officials said.

It was not immediately clear what caused Tuesday's accident. Unidentified sources told the Times Record News that one of the jet's tires blew out, causing the pilots to lose control of the aircraft. Officials did not immediately confirm the report.

The aircraft was assigned to the 80th Flying Training Wing.
