A man well-known around Philadelphia as “Philly Jesus” for his long beard and flowing robes, was arrested after taking pictures while ice skating.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Michael Grant, 28, was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to disperse.
Grant, who was ice skating at Philadelphia’s Love Park in his Jesus-inspired outfit, often takes photos with people in the park. Police accuse Grant of soliciting tips for the photos.
Grant tweeted he accepts tips, but does not actively solicit for money.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Grant was told by the officer to leave the park, but Grant considered the order an “unlawful request.”
UPI reports Grant was released Friday evening and plans to fight the charges in court.
Grant told the Inquirer he created the Philly Jesus character after his religious beliefs helped him overcome substance abuse issues.Grant reportedly has been arrested more than a dozen times oncharges including loitering, possession of marijuana, and theft of services.
