But one California dad got more than he could handle while taking care of his son, Declan.

Ben Pattersen’s son vomited in the back seat of the car during a ride on Thursday.

But that was just the beginning for Ben Pattersen, who switched cars with his wife so she could go out with some friends.

In a series of text messages sent to his wife, Stephanie, Pattersen chronicles the experience, beginning when he pulled over to take care of the mess. He subsequently vomited himself and was asked to complete a Breathalyzer test by police.

“I’m puking on some lady’s lawn in Burlingame and she comes out to ask me if I’m drunk while driving with the kids,” Pattersen wrote in one text. “I’m trying to explain to her that I’m a sympathetic vomiter and can’t handle the smell," he said later.

He eventually makes it back home by driving with the windows down and with his shirt over his face.

"You owe me so big," he told his wife.

Ben posted about his experience on Facebook, calling it "unfortunate hilarity." His post has been shared more than 130,000 times.
