A 16-year-old female student at a Delaware high school has died following a serious assault on campus.
Amy Inita Joyner-Francis was remembered by friends as a good student who was quiet and tried to diffuse tensions at school.
Joyner-Francis died after an assault was reported early Thursday morning at Howard High School of Technology. No further details about the assault have been released by police, although students told WPVI that the student was jumped in a restroom by several students. According to witnesses, the victim hit her head on the sink and lost consciousness.
According to Delaware Online, police said multiple students were being interviewed about the incident and no one from outside the school was believed to have been involved.
The student was flown by helicopter to a children’s hospital, where she was pronounced dead late Thursday morning.
A school employee told Delaware Online that students had been dismissed for the day. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
