Today, the network will announce "Founders" as the name they'll use for the generation born after the turn of the millennium.

The kids born after 2000 have a culture all their own: They grew up with a black man as president, and with digital technology in their back pockets. But they also were raised by the more practical and realistic Gen X'ers, impacting how they'll see the world and relate to it.

According to TIME:

"Research shows that today's teenagers are more pragmatic and independent than their millennial predecessors. They’re more likely to stand out than fit in. They’re digital natives who don’t know a time before being constantly plugged in. And they’re part of the most diverse generation in history, a generation that will soon be as coveted among marketers as millennials."

It's no surprise that they can't relate to many millennials' views and lifestyles. After all, the oldest members of the millennial generation are approaching 35.

MTV president Sean Atkins said the name recognizes that millennials have disrupted society, but the new generation will rebuild it.

"They have this self-awareness that systems have been broken," he told TIME. "But they can't be the generation that says we'll break it even more."
